I’m so excited to share with you the launch of the brand design and website for Green Crosses! Green Crosses is a sustainable and community-based resource specializing in seed to shelf production of artisanal CBD products including isolate, THC-free distillate and water-solubles sourced from the flower mountain meadows of southern Oregon and other pristine regions of the United States. I had a great time working with my clients on this project, and I want to go in depth to show you their logo, sub-logo, brand collateral items and website designed on the Squarespace platform.
After my client filled out their design questionnaire, as well as their Pinterest board for inspiration, I started designing the primary logo.
With all of my brand designs, I start with some loose sketches. The idea here is not perfection, but some quick thumbnail drawings to get an idea of where you want to start. I bring these ideas into Adobe Illustrator to start illustrating some of my initial logo concepts. In my client’s words, what Green Crosses was looking for a logo that is “clean, modern, but also has a creative merging of symbols or shapes.”

This feedback, in addition to the curated Pinterest inspiration board, helped me to get started with the initial concepts. Here were a few of the contenders:
And after two rounds of revisions, here is the final logo we arrived at!
From there, I went to work on the secondary or sub-logo. This logo can be used as your website’s favicon, as an icon in the footer of your website, or as a watermark on your business card or other print items.
Next up was brand collateral items. This can include business cards, pattern design, any print items or social media graphics. For Green Crosses, I created business cards, labels for their CBD isolate product, and social media graphics:
Once the brand was established, we were ready to start designing the e-commerce website. For this project, I decided the best fit for my clients would be the Squarespace platform since they needed an online store to sell their products, and Squarespace handles e-commerce beautifully and seamlessly!
The homepage is strategically designed to showcase their brand (the brand photos at the top slideshow were used to showcase not only that CBD is for people and pets to stay healthy, but also to attract customers who are interested in overall wellness). There is also a call-to-action to learn more about their company and CBD, their most relevant blog posts, an easy way to shop their products immediately, as well as sign up for a 10% off coupon (that will be automatically sent to the customer). I also included a beautiful way to display their Instagram feed in the footer, where customers can follow them to see a sneak peek inside their company. I also added some custom CSS styling throughout to transform their Squarespace site into something completely unique!

I wrap up the entire design process by putting together a Brand Style Guide which includes all of the fonts I used in their brand and website, their color palette (with Hex/RGB/CMYK codes), their logos and how they should be used, their visual inspiration board as well as a snapshot of their brand collateral items. I also send them a link to download all of their branding materials, and they are included in relevant file formats for print and web (such as, EPS, PDF, JPG and PNG). This helps the client be able to use their brand items in the best possible way going forward!
Let me know in the comments below what you think of this brand and website, I’d love to hear your feedback!
